Reports show that the number of uninsured individuals is rising. What is more disturbing is that many of them are from moderate and middle-class working families. Many have medical bills and medical debts to pay. The rising cost of medical procedures and the consequent rise of insurance premiums are probably the reason why many Americans have remained uninsured. Yet this should not be the case, as most people without insurance have difficulty managing chronic conditions. They usually receive inefficient health and preventive care. Everyone should have a health insurance policy to cover the unexpected emergencies that can be the start of financial ruin.

For low income earners, every state has a Medicare program designed to provide coverage for those who can’t afford one. Visit the Division of family Services and inquire. The Medicare program provides coverage for the entire family, complete with dental, vision, emergency and prescription costs.

Local insurance agents and brokers can also help you out in looking for insurance plans that will suit your needs and your budget. There is also the option of searching online. With the increasing need for insurance, there are many available insurance providers and companies who can customize your insurance coverage for you. You can even get free quotes and compare premiums and benefits.

And while they are not considered health insurance, health care plans may prove to be useful. Health care plans give you a discount for medical and dental services and reduced prices in pharmacies and doctors’ offices. They, however, have a monthly charge. Health care plans have limited network service.

Normally, insurance premiums which are high provide you with more benefits and flexibility, while lower premiums are more limited in coverage benefits and flexibility. Another option is to go for group health insurance, if you can’t afford an individual plan. Group health insurance is generally provided by the employer and the premiums are deducted automatically from the monthly salary. They are cheaper, and some even offer coverage for the dependents.

If you can’t afford a long term health insurance plan, or you’re in between jobs, a graduate who’s not covered by your parents’ insurance policy anymore, you may opt for a temporary or short-term health insurance plan. Depending on the plan, temporary health insurance provides you with basic health coverage — from hospital care, to emergency services to prescription drugs and follow-up visits. Take note, however, that temporary health insurance does not cover pre-existing conditions. It may be just what you need while you are waiting or trying to make a decision about a permanent plan

Remember that most insurance policies require you to pay a deductible before they take on the rest of the costs. This deductible can range from a hundred dollars to a thousand dollars.

And since health is wealth, the best way to get yourself a cheap medical insurance and lower the costs is to stay healthy. Use home health care. Learn first aid. Take advantage of toll-free health hotlines who which offer you free health advice and consultation. Look for hospitals which offer incentives. Go for generic drugs as they are cheaper.

Review your policy every year. Make sure you pay your premiums annually so you don’t lapse and pay penalty fines or totally lose your plan. Check out your Medicare coverage and benefits. Most people are cheated out of their Medicare benefits because they do not know what it covers and what it doesn’t.

Staying healthy may be easy. But paying for your health expenses come emergency time isn’t, if you’re without insurance coverage. So make sure you have one!

It pays to be safe. And with the lifestyle and the risks people are exposed to everyday, it’s no wonder there’s a steady rise in cancer and stroke patients, as well as accident victims. Now, it’s not even enough to have the basic insurance. There’s more than one insurance plan an individual gets for himself. Supplemental health insurance is just one of the many plans to consider.

The ABCs of Supplemental Health Insurance

Supplemental Health Insurance is an insurance policy that covers other items not included in your regular health insurance plan. It covers additional living expenses and lost income due to absence or time off from work. Most of these supplemental insurance benefits are paid directly to the patient or the victim, as compared to the hospital and other medical insurance benefits that are paid directly to the provider. As such, supplemental health insurance can help the patient or the victim in his/her miscellaneous expenses.

The more common supplemental health plans would include a supplemental health insurance plan for cancer and other critical conditions like stroke and heart surgery. It provides benefits for surgery, anesthesia, chemotherapy and preventive care. There’s also supplemental insurance for disability and accidents which would include benefits for in-patient hospitalization and out-patient surgery and recovery care. Supplemental long term care insurance covers living expenses, medical home care, emergency response systems and caregiver training.

This insurance plan is good for the self employed, families with children, individuals with no financial capacity for large medical bills, those aged 65 and older, and Medicare members.

Why It Pays To Have Supplemental Health Insurance

Aside from providing the individual with ‘emergency’ money and other cash benefits, supplemental health insurance also allows for lower cost because of lower benefit amounts and the ability to offset lost income. Other basic supplemental health plans have benefits that cover preventive medical care. Supplemental health plans for cancer patients give direct cash to their policy holders for cancer treatments and other expenses. Some supplemental health plans give lump sum benefits to cancer, stroke and heart attack patients.

Senior citizens who are members of Medicare have supplemental health plans in addition to their long term care insurance to provide them with financial security. The supplemental health plan covers long term health care, the cost of nursing homes and prescription drugs.

It is still recommended that you maintain your major medical insurance, as this is not a replacement for the latter. Having a supplemental health insurance plan adds to the security of your future, and removes worries about unpaid medical bills and living expenses.

With a supplemental health plan, you don’t have to worry about emergency expenses or the daily costs of nursing care. Now, it’s not even enough to have a simple health insurance plan. You have to be on guard for additional expenses and costs which your insurance plan doesn’t cover. A supplemental health insurances plan can put your mind at ease.

No two individuals are exactly alike. Every one has their own lifestyle, own lives to take care of, own income, own families, and dreams.

And it is also true that no two individuals have exactly the same medical needs.

As for Tufts Health Plan, that is what their service is all about.

Tufts Health Plan is one of the medical insurance providers in the United States that offers a wide range of distinct medical insurance plan options to their clients. Each option provides a different level of medical coverage and benefits according to the needs of their clients.

Let’s review what Tufts Health Plan offers to individuals with varying medical needs. Here are some of their medical insurance plans along with an overview of each works.

HMO (Health Maintenance Organization). Being a member of Tufts Health Plan’s HMO, you are entitled to access to one of the biggest network of physicians and medical facilities around the country. This privilege enables you to make your initial medical care decision of selecting a primary care physician (PCP). It will serve as your guide to your medical insurance policy with Tufts Health Plan by providing you referrals and paying a co-payment for every medical service you use under the medical insurance policy.

Advantage HMO. The Tufts Health Plan Advantage HMO is referred to as a front-end deductible HMO which offers greater medical coverage at competitive prices. It works just like the traditional HMO, with several key differences such as the following:

Its front-end deductible feature is applicable to in-patient medical care facilities, outpatient diagnosis, and other medical services. After you have satisfied the deductibles of your medical insurance policy, it will fully cover the specified medical services stated on the policy.

Laboratory work and testing (whether routine or preventive) is covered 100 percent without deductibles or co-payments.

Specialist consultations (routine) are covered with a co-payment for every visit.

Emergency room care is covered with just a co-payment and no applicable deductibles.

POS (Point of Service). It is one of the most flexible medical insurance policies of Tufts Health Plan. You will be given access to their extensive network of physicians and medical facilities, plus the privilege of going directly to a preferred specialist without referral for covered medical services. Once your PCP authorized the medical care, all you need to pay is a co-payment for the covered medical services.

PPO (Preferred Provider Organization). Once you are a PPO member, you decide on the level of medical coverage you want as well as the physicians you want to see. No limitations, no PCP. You are in charge. Your employer will set the co-payment limits and no deductibles are applicable for this policy.

Advantage PPO. Once you are enrolled in Tufts Health Plan Advantage PPO medical insurance policy, you are not limited to a single network. You are entitled to a higher level of medical benefits once you select them or when said level is provided in their network. However, you are also given the freedom to use medical services from any licensed doctors, medical facilities, and specialists.

These are just some of the medical insurance policies provided by Tufts Health Plan. There are just plans that are meant for your varying medical needs. Include Tufts Health Plan in your priority options and see the difference it can make to your life.
