Exploring Medical Health Plans—Are You Up For The Job??

The costs for medical health plans are rising rapidly. This is affecting individuals, families, and corporations. And this of course is due to the increasing cost of doctor visits, hospital stays, and drugs.

This is forcing some people not to have medical health plans. When you have to eat and have a place to live, health plans move down te list of priorities. Companies that offer medical health plans are on the decrease. And the health plans that they do offer do not cover as much as they used to.

This is where you need to stop and think. People that do nothing about getting some type of medical health plans are setting themselves up for a financial disaster. At the very least you need to have a health plan that will at least cover any major expenses. And there are options. Let’s take a look at a few.

First we will look at standard medical health plans and what they cover.

For standard medical health plan coverage:

  • Minor and part of major medical surgeries;
  • Hospital care;
  • Prescription and medication expenses;
  • Recovery care such as private home care or physical therapy; and
  • Regular appointments/visits to physicians.

And then there would be additional medical benefits:

  • Long term care;
  • Specialist consultations such as cardiologists;
  • Major medical surgeries; and
  • Expensive medications and treatments.

After studying the benefits of standard medical health plans, we will compare the available options in terms of the costs against the terms of coverage. The following are the two of the medical health plans available:

  • Indemnity plan. This type of plan normally reimburses your medical expenses and does not limit who can provide the needed medical services.
  • Managed medical health care plan. In this type of plan, the costs will be managed by the insurance provider through negotiating the rates with selected doctors, medical facilities, and health care providers. Such a plan may reduce your cost compared to full service plans, but you are required to use doctors, health care providers, and medical facilities specified by your insurance plan.

So the bottom line is that you may have to make some sacrifices, but if you shop around and just get the bare essentials, there will be medical health plans that you can manage. And the alternative is not a very pretty picture!
